Songyang Academy is nestled at the foot of Mount Song. Ancient people believed that a mountain-backed environment was ideal for an academy, providing a place for children to study.
Songyang Academy was originally built during the Northern Wei Dynasty as Songyang Temple. During the Sui and Tang Dynasties, it served as a temporary palace for Emperor Gaozong of Tang. After 1949, it became Dengfeng Normal School and is now a protected cultural relic.
Songyang Academy is located within the Mount Song scenic area, which is quite large. Entering from the entrance and turning right leads to the academy. Here, you can immerse yourself in the scholarly atmosphere, sitting at a desk and transporting yourself back in time to the scene of Confucius lecturing.
Songyang Academy is also one of the four great academies of the Northern Song Dynasty and a center for the dissemination of Neo-Confucianism! Unfortunately, the statue stele was surrounded by barriers, preventing close-up viewing.
The Hall of the Sages inside also contains a statue of Confucius.
