“When I was gasping like a dog beside the glacial lake at 3,800 meters altitude, I looked up and saw the snow-capped mountains reflected in the emerald lake—suddenly I understood why some say: ‘Those who haven’t been to Yubeng don’t deserve to talk about poetry and distant places!’”
🌈 Why is Yubeng legendary?
✅ One of China’s top ten hiking routes: a secluded Tibetan village at the foot of Meili Snow Mountain, a utopia for hikers!
✅ Eyes in heaven: snow mountains, glacial lakes, sacred waterfalls, starry skies, prayer flags… every snapshot looks like a National Geographic cover!
✅ Body in hell (but worth it): hiking 6-8 hours daily, altitude sickness? No way! 🤣
📝 Super practical guide (tested to avoid pitfalls)
🚗 How to get there?
1️⃣ From Lijiang/Shangri-La → carpool to Xidang Village (about 6 hours, 💰150 RMB/person)
2️⃣ The ultimate test: hike from Xidang Village into Yubeng (or pay 💰200 RMB for an off-road vehicle, but you’ll miss the prayer flag arrays along the way!)
🏡 Where to stay?
✔️ Upper Yubeng: recommended “Butter Tea Inn,” open your window to snow mountains, and at night gather around the fire roasting potatoes!
✔️ Lower Yubeng: “Sacred Waterfall Inn” is the best value, only 10 minutes from the sacred waterfall hiking start point!
3-day classic route
Day 1: Xidang → Yubeng Village (12 km, exhausting enough to question life but Tibetan locals cheer you on along the way!)
Day 2: Yubeng → Glacial Lake (stunning! But slippery, remember to bring trekking poles 🧗)
Day 3: Yubeng → Sacred Waterfall → Exit via Ninong Canyon (spin three times under the waterfall to wash away your sins~)
💡 Must-see Tips
⚠️ Strong UV rays at high altitude! Sunglasses + sunscreen + magic headscarf = life-saving trio
⚠️ Village prices are double those outside (Coke 15 RMB/bottle), but yak meat hotpot 🍲 is totally worth it!
⚠️ Best season is May to October; heavy snow in winter may close the mountain
“When a Tibetan grandma handed me a bowl of butter tea and said ‘Tashi Delek,’ I suddenly burst into tears… There’s no WiFi here, but the starry sky and people’s hearts are the purest.” ✨
🔹 Perfect for your social feed
“Take the wildest path, see the most divine mountains—Yubeng taught me: true freedom is measuring the world with your own feet.”
“Dare to challenge the ‘body hell mode’? Show off your hiking achievements in the comments!”
Yunnan secret spot “Yubeng VS Daocheng Yading, which do you think is more stunning?”
“Every step on Yubeng’s path counts. When you stand under the sacred waterfall, and the water droplets hit your face—that moment—you’ll thank yourself for persevering.”
