The Secret Realm of Fireflies, Sleepless at Night

Deep within the bamboo forest of Moganshan lies a poetic retreat where "one walks to the end of the water and sits to watch the clouds rise"—Yunqi Ju Firefly Base. Designed by a Taiwanese designer, the rammed earth round house is hidden between streams and mountains. The rugged texture of the rammed earth walls contrasts with the transparency of natural wood and glass, blending the wild mountain atmosphere with minimalist aesthetics into every inch of the space.
All seven guest rooms are named after nature. From "Wood Hide" and "Bamboo Whisper," opening the window reveals lush greenery. The panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows frame the mountain scenery like a flowing painting. In the tatami private hot spring rooms, the fragrance of herbal bath sachets and mosquito-repelling herbs intertwine. The warm touch of Indonesian antique furniture complements the rustic natural stone washbasins. At night, guests fall asleep to the sound of insects and wake up to birdsong in the forest.
Time here slows down. During the day, you can relax on the 1,000-square-meter lawn or follow forest trails to find herbs and make your own scented candle. In the afternoon, bask in the sun at the café and taste fresh fruits and dried carrots supplied directly from the farm, experiencing the freshness of "farm to table." The attentive little butler prepares the check-in guide early, with thoughtful details like pick-up at the entrance and pre-setting the air conditioning, full of warmth.
The most enchanting moment is summer night. The guesthouse leads directly to a 6,000-square-meter glowing water forest. Through a VIP passage, you can avoid the crowds and watch thousands of fireflies waltz among the grass. The glowing signposts and moonlight sketch a dreamy path. The science educator’s explanations give stories to the twinkling lights, evoking childhood memories hard to find in the city.
From the misty hot springs to the sky full of fireflies, from wild mountain flavors to natural whispers, Yunqi Ju captures the spirit and gentleness of Moganshan in this secluded escape.
