The corrupt official Heshen actually hid his private property in the Gaoyou pawnshop

There is a treasure town called Gaoyou in Jiangsu Province. It is a famous historical and cultural city with many national key cultural relics protection units.
Among them is a pawnshop from the Qing Dynasty, which is also a national key cultural relic protection unit. Moreover, this pawnshop was actually a private property secretly set up in Gaoyou by Heshen, a corrupt official during the Qianlong period.
This shop belonged to Heshen's secret property.

Gaoyou Pawnshop is located at No. 19 Renmin Road in the historical and cultural district in the north of Gaoyou City. It is also known as Beimen Pawnshop and was opened in the early Qing Dynasty.
The Gaoyou Pawnshop faces south and has a nearly square floor plan, about 60 meters long from east to west and 55 meters deep from north to south. It covers an area of about 3,300 square meters and has a construction area of 2,700 square meters.
The building is a traditional brick and wood structure with blue brick walls, small tile roof, and gable roof. Gaoyou Pawnshop adopts a courtyard-style layout.
Gaoyou Pawnshop provides an important window for studying the special facility functions of this special industry, and also provides physical materials for studying the pawn system and residential architecture in Jiangsu area during the Qing Dynasty.

On May 25, 2006, Gaoyou Pawnshop was announced by the State Council of the People's Republic of China as the sixth batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
Gaoyou Pawnshop was opened in the middle of the Qing Dynasty. Its name was Tongxing and it was said to be the private property of Heshen, a powerful official in the Qing Dynasty.
At that time, there were several pawnshops in Gaoyou City. This pawnshop was the largest and had been in business the longest. Because it was located outside the north gate of Gaoyou City, the locals called it Bei Dangdian. After Heshen's downfall, the government became private and changed hands several times.
In the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China, Ma Shijie became the largest shareholder of the pawnshop, which was later run exclusively by He Zi.
