🍲 Shunde Flavours 大榕树下 Beneath the Big Banyan – A Hidden Gem in Tee Mall

While exploring Tee Mall (天河城) on Beijing Road in Guangzhou, we found ourselves drawn to 大榕树下 (“Under the Big Banyan Tree”), a restaurant that came highly recommended for its authentic Cantonese and Shunde cuisine. Tucked quietly within the mall, the place felt inviting—unpretentious yet clearly popular among locals.

We ordered a range of traditional dishes, and each one brought its own surprise:
• 顺德豉味碌鹅 (Shunde-style Braised Goose in Fermented Bean Sauce): Rich, bold, and deeply flavourful. The goose was tender, soaking up the savory sauce perfectly—a great introduction to Shunde flavours.
• 老广腊味煲仔饭 (Claypot Rice with Cantonese Preserved Meats): Classic comfort food. The rice had that signature crispy bottom (锅巴) we love, and the preserved meats were fragrant and satisfying.
• 虫草花炖肉汁 (Cordyceps Flower Stewed Pork Essence): A nourishing and hearty soup that felt almost medicinal. The flavours were gentle yet complex—a perfect palate cleanser between heavier dishes.
• 佛跳墙 (Buddha Jumps Over the Wall): Luxurious, as expected. Full of premium ingredients and slowly simmered to perfection. This dish alone was worth the visit.

Service was friendly, and the staff offered helpful recommendations. The setting was casual but clean, perfect for a relaxed family meal or a break from shopping.

Prices were very reasonable considering the quality and portion sizes. We left satisfied and impressed—a must-try for anyone wanting to explore authentic regional Cantonese dishes right in the heart of the city.
