Xinhepu Historical and Cultura

Xinhepu Historical and Cultural District:

· Location: Located in Yuexiu District, Guangzhou, it stretches from Da Road in the east to Junyi Road in the west, borders Miaoqian Street in the north, and borders Donghu Park in the south. The core area includes Xinhepu Road, Xiuguyuan Road, Peizheng Road, Yandun Road, and Sibei Tongjin Street.
· Historical Background: In the 1920s and 1930s, this area was a gathering place for overseas Chinese, politicians, and wealthy businessmen. They built numerous villas and mansions that blended Chinese and Western architectural styles, forming a unique residential community.
· Characteristics: Quiet and shady, the area is characterized by red brick walls, shuttered windows, and small courtyards. Avoiding excessive commercialization, it still retains a strong sense of life and artistic style.

Key Highlights

1. "Dongshan Western-style Building" Architectural Museum

The architecture here primarily features Western classical, Chinese-Western fusion, and modern villa styles. It is the largest existing complex of modern, low-rise courtyard-style buildings in Guangzhou that blends Chinese and Western styles.

The "Five Famous Gardens of Dongshan": Chunyuan, Jianyuan, Kuiyuan, Mingyuan, and Yuyuan are the most famous.

Chunyuan: The residence of delegates during the Third National Congress of the Communist Party of China, now open to the public as a memorial hall.

Kuaiyuan: Located on Xuguyuan Road, with the words "1922" prominently inscribed on its exterior wall. During the Third National Congress, the venue faced Kuiyuan, and delegates used it as a landmark. Today, Kuiyuan has been revitalized as an art gallery and café, becoming a neighborhood landmark.

Jianyuan: Formerly the German consulate, later owned by the Jian brothers of the Nanyang Tobacco Company, it boasts magnificent architecture.

Mingyuan: Two identical red-brick buildings offer a tranquil setting.

Yuyuan: Located in Sibeitongjin, its architectural style leans towards British style, a testament to the saying "Miss Xiguan, Master Dongshan."

2. A Rich Historical and Cultural Atmosphere

· Numerous Prestigious Schools: The neighborhood is surrounded by numerous prestigious and historic institutions, such as Peizheng Middle School, Peizheng Elementary School, and No. 7 Middle School. The buildings within the campuses themselves are historical relics, and during school hours, you can see students in their uniforms, adding a youthful vitality to the old street.
· The Site of the Third National Congress of the Communist Party of China: Located on Xuguyuan Road, it is a major red tourism attraction. The adjacent Memorial Hall of the Third National Congress of the Communist Party of China provides detailed information on its history.
