Guilin Museum

Guilin Museum is a comprehensive museum that displays the history and culture of Guilin. It is also one of the largest and most comprehensive museums in Guangxi. It is a national first-class museum.
* Geographic location:
The old site of Guilin Museum is located on Xishan Road, Xiufeng District, and the new site is located in the first courtyard and two museums on Pinggui West Road, Lingui New District.
*Basic Information:
① Creation time. The Guilin Museum was built in 1963, completed and opened to the public in November 1988, and the new museum was officially opened to the public on December 30, 2016.
②Origin of the name. The name of the museum was written by Mr. Guo Moruo in March 1963.
③Building scale. The total construction area of ​​the new museum is 34,000 square meters, and the exhibition area is about 12,000 square meters.
④Collection features. Guilin Museum currently has a collection of nearly 40,000 cultural relics, which are rich and diverse with distinctive features. They mainly include plum bottles unearthed in Guilin from the Ming Dynasty, gifts presented by foreign guests, precious paintings and calligraphy from the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Guilin historical relics, and cultural relics of Guangxi ethnic minorities.
*Exhibition Display:
Guilin Museum has a total of 12 exhibition halls, offering a number of basic displays and special exhibitions.
① "Lishui Spring and Autumn Period-Guilin Historical and Cultural Exhibition". This exhibition hall uses time as its axis to display the historical and cultural development of Guilin from prehistoric times to modern times. Here, you can see precious cultural relics such as stone tools and pottery from the Neolithic Age, bronze drums from the Han Dynasty, porcelain from the Tang Dynasty, and feel Guilin's profound historical heritage.
② "People in the Painting-Guilin Folk Culture Exhibition". This exhibition hall displays the customs, traditional crafts and folk arts of various ethnic groups in Guilin. Here, you can appreciate exquisite ethnic costumes, unique residential architectural models, and various folk handicrafts, and experience the rich ethnic customs of Guilin.
③ "The Remains of Jingjiang—Exhibition of Ming Dynasty Plum Bottles Unearthed in Guilin". This exhibition hall presents a glimpse of the social, political, economic and cultural life of the Ming Dynasty from the perspectives of history, art and aesthetics, revealing the profound connotation of Guilin, one of the first batch of famous historical and cultural cities in China.
④ "Friendship Guilin - Exhibition of Gifts Donated by Foreign Guests in the Museum's Collection". This exhibition hall displays precious gifts presented to Guilin by leaders and friendly people from various countries, reflecting the friendly exchanges between Guilin and the rest of the world.
⑤ "Love for Guilin - Exhibition of Donated Works by Li Peigeng, Ye Lumei and Song Kejun" / "Magnificent Calligraphy and Painting - Exhibition of Fine Calligraphy and Paintings from the Ming and Qing Dynasties in the Museum's Collection". These exhibitions comprehensively showcase Guilin's history, culture, folk customs and artistic treasures.

①Educational function. Guilin Museum is not only a window to showcase Guilin's history and culture, but also an important educational base. The museum has a 1,400-square-meter interactive center for minors’ education, and regularly organizes various social education activities such as lectures, exhibitions, and interactive experiences, aiming to enhance the public’s historical and cultural literacy and awareness of cultural relics protection.
②Explanation service. The museum provides free tour guide services. It is recommended to follow the tour guide to gain a deeper understanding of the stories behind the exhibits.
