Hangzhou Museum (Hangzhou Museum (under preparation)), located at No. 18 Liangdaoshan, Shangcheng District, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, is a comprehensive urban museum that collects, protects, studies and displays the protection of Hangzhou's cultural heritage.
The Hangzhou Museum was formerly the Hangzhou History Museum, which was completed and opened in October 2001. At the end of 2011, Hangzhou History Museum was renamed Hangzhou Museum. Hangzhou Museum is divided into South and North Buildings. The North Hall is "Treasures of Hangzhou - Exhibition of Fine Cultural Relics in the Collection", which consists of five themes: Natural Treasures, Brilliant Design, Calligraphy and Painting, Elegant Leisure, and A Small Space; the South Hall is "The Most Memorable Hangzhou - Exhibition of Hangzhou History and Culture". The collection of Hangzhou Museum covers various cultural relics, materials and specimens such as ceramics, calligraphy and painting, rare books, steles and calligraphy, seal albums, jade, bronze, gold and silver, seals, bamboo, wood, ivory and bone, folk customs, coins, stamps, etc., forming a collection with Ming and Qing calligraphy and painting, Song and Yuan ceramics and Ming and Qing jades as the main body, and primitive celadon, Warring States jade and stone artifacts, Yuan Dynasty cellars and other fine collections. As of the end of 2022, Hangzhou Museum had 24,602 pieces/sets of collections, 3,668 pieces/sets of precious cultural relics, carried out 642 social education activities, and held 11 exhibitions.
On May 18, 2017, Hangzhou Museum was rated as the third batch of national first-class museums by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage.
