Hanoi Train Street: Must-visit in Vietnam

Hanoi isn’t a city you understand right away. At first, it overwhelms you: the noise, the motorbikes, the scent of street food, narrow alleyways, and a sea of signs… But then, you suddenly realize — you actually enjoy living in this.
🧠 A Fun Fact About Hanoi That Surprised Me:
Did you know that there are more scooters in Hanoi than people? According to local sources, the city of ~8 million has over 9 million motorbikes! That’s why no one really waits for green lights — the rule is simple: walk confidently and the bikes will move around you.
✅ Useful Tips for Exploring the City:
🚦 Don’t try to run across the street. Instead, walk slowly, steadily, and don’t stop. Drivers here are like mind-readers — they’ll weave around you with ease.
📍 Use offline maps. Many streets in the Old Quarter look the same, and GPS isn’t always accurate. Download MAPS.ME or offline Google Maps before heading out.
🍲 Eat where the locals eat. Don’t judge by appearances — the tastiest pho and bun cha are often found in the simplest, most unassuming spots.
🌙 Evening Is When Hanoi Truly Shines
When the city is bathed in soft lantern light and the motorbike buzz softens, the Old Quarter becomes a neon maze filled with the smells of grilled meat and coconut coffee. It’s the perfect time to just wander with no destination.
Hanoi doesn’t try to explain itself — it just lives, and you either embrace it or move on. I’m glad I stayed a little longer.
Would you live in a city where there’s basically one scooter per person? 😄
