Helan Mountain Trail ⛰️🧭 See the rock paintings and marvel at them, but regret not encountering the lively mountain goats🐐

Before returning to Hong Kong, I rushed from Yinchuan to Mount Halan, half for the rumored thousand-year-old rock paintings, and half to try my luck to see the "indigenous people" of this mountain - Mount Halan rock sheep. The result was a surprise and a little regret, the whole process is remembered very clearly.

Once you enter the Helan Mountain Rock Painting Scenic Area, the stone path at your feet and the gray-black rocks around you already carry a quiet sense of history. Within a few steps along the road, you can see different patterns on the rock wall: wild sheep with bent horns, camels with stretched necks, and simple human face patterns. Although the lines are rough, they are very dynamic. The most shocking and most famous is the "Sun God" rock painting, the round head covered with radiating rays, even thousands of years apart, one can feel the awe and imagination of the ancients for nature.

However, the most important thing in the whole process was always the rock sheep. I read before that the coat color of rock sheep is very close to the rock, and they will jump around beside mountain trails and on rocks, and are as flexible as "mountain elves". I paid attention as I walked, but unfortunately I only saw a few wild pigeons and no shadow of rock sheep during the entire tour. As I was about to leave, I looked back at the top of the hill, still a little unyielding, thinking "Will it be hidden behind some big rock?", but was disappointed.

Although it's a pity not to see the rock sheep, but looking back, it is because of the rareness of this "unexpected encounter" that it appears naturally cute. And seeing such beautiful rock paintings and hearing so many stories about Mount Horan, this trip was enough.
