A Perfect Island Retreat

This island is truly a gem. We spent 5 days here before moving on to another resort. Like many other reviews mention, the staff are outstanding and really enhanced our holiday experience. We stayed in a jetted pool villa, and while some fittings are slightly worn, it didn't affect our stay or ability to enjoy the amenities. A highlight for us, traveling with a teenager, was the partially 'screened' sitting area where her sofa bed was. Although open to the main room, it offered her a bit of personal space, which is rare in family-oriented rooms. My husband and I indulged in a full body massage, and it was one of the best I've had. The island exudes a rustic, relaxed vibe; it may not appeal to those seeking lots of entertainment, but we found it ideal for unwinding. The snorkeling was excellent, with easily accessible reef entry that was well-marked, making it perfect for beginners and kids. The soft sandy beach provided easy access, and there are measures to combat erosion like the sandbagged breaks along parts of the shore, yet plenty of unspoiled areas for those breathtaking photos! The food is good and plenty, while not necessarily the finest we've had, the variety and quality were enjoyable—we certainly never went hungry. The breakfasts were particularly noteworthy. One day we visited the sister Banyan Tree hotel for lunch and to use their pool. It was nice, but we actually preferred Ihuru and didn't bother returning. The only improvement for us would be the cocktails—perhaps it was just my selection, but the pina colada and espresso martini didn't impress (however, I did enjoy a Cosmopolitan). In June, there was a good mix of groups, families, and couples. I believe it would suit most people. We're already making plans to return.
