The Hirosaki Neputa Festival is a national important intangible folk cultural asset.

With live music, real lanterns, and souvenirs, it's a must-see tourist spot when you come to Aomori.

I highly recommend this place, so I'll introduce it with photos.

[About the origin]
The famous Neputa Festival in Aomori Prefecture
The origin of Neputa came from a farming event called "Nemuri Nagashi" to wash away sleepiness and laziness.
The name "Neputa Festival" comes from "neputa" in Aomori dialect, which means "sleepy."

[What you can see]
⚫︎Life-size lanterns
The large lanterns, about 10 meters long, are impressive enough to look up at.
⚫︎Live shamisen performance
The speed of the finger movements and the strength of the sound were impressive, which can only be conveyed live.

⚫︎Explanation of the origins of Neputa and the shamisen
There was also an English explanation, and people from overseas responded well. The explanations are easy to understand and don't take long, so even small children should be able to follow along. I definitely recommend listening to them when you visit.
