Hong Kong|MacLehose Trail Section 6: Ma Liu Shui — Shing Mun Reservoir

For some reason, every time I go to Shing Mun Reservoir, it’s always cloudy or rainy. This time was no exception… (While walking, it started to rain☔️. I wanted to see Shing Mun Reservoir under the sunshine, but the weather wasn’t on my side.🥹)
Section 6 of the MacLehose Trail is the shortest of the ten sections. The entire route is about 4.1 kilometers and takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. It’s not difficult at all.
Along the way, you pass through Kam Shan Country Park and Shing Mun Reservoir. There are monkeys all over the hills, and if there aren’t many people around, facing so many monkeys can give you goosebumps🙈🙈. Especially when the monkeys suddenly follow you from behind.😂
The route from Kam Shan Country Park to Shing Mun Reservoir features many abandoned trenches, tunnel entrances, and bunker command posts. For those interested in military history, this route is a great choice.
⚠️⚠️⚠️
Monkeys are highly sensitive animals. Just taking water out of my backpack caused one monkey to immediately follow behind me, calling to its companions in monkey language. It seemed to suggest that my backpack might have food.
During the hike:
❌ Do not make eye contact with the monkeys
❌ Do not feed the monkeys
❌ Do not have any physical contact with the monkeys
✔️ Try to keep food/plastic bags and other items inside your backpack.
