I was completely captivated by the Blue and White Porcelain theme! The afternoon teas at Royal Plaza Hotel's Lion Rock are always thoughtfully crafted and creative, presenting food in an artistic and Instagram-worthy way that makes it almost too beautiful to eat. This time, the theme is inspired by traditional Chinese elements, offering the 'Blue and White Porcelain Afternoon Tea,' which instantly transported me to a poetic world of ancient charm.
The set includes four savory and four sweet items. The Blue and White Porcelain dessert amazed me at first sight—I thought it was just a decorative piece, but it turned out to be a vanilla blueberry mousse cake! The outer layer is made of Madagascar vanilla mousse, rich and creamy, with a smooth texture. Inside, there's a soft blueberry mousse and sponge cake.
Another Instagram-worthy dessert is the Matcha Pudding with Cherry Liqueur Jelly, designed to look like a miniature fish pond. The rich Uji matcha pudding pairs perfectly with the jelly on top, enhancing the lingering sweetness. Edible Swiss chard as water plants, chocolate goldfish, and dark chocolate stones—all elements in the jar are edible, making it a fun treat.
The gourd-shaped dessert is a Tofu Cheesecake made with organic tofu, featuring a soy milk lava center. It has a subtle soy aroma and is both healthy and delicious.
The Raspberry Milk Chocolate Mousse Cake, shaped like a pipa (a traditional Chinese lute), is a classic flavor combination that never fails to impress. The smooth texture melts in your mouth.
For savory items, there's the Crispy Scallop with Mango Sauce. The fresh scallop is fried to a golden crisp while remaining tender and juicy inside. It pairs wonderfully with the potato salad base and a sauce made from fresh Philippine mangoes and vinegar, offering a sweet and tangy flavor.
The Spicy Chicken Tart features diced chicken thigh marinated in a special spicy chili oil, stir-fried with diced carrots and red and yellow bell peppers, then served in a crispy tart shell made from fried siu mai wrappers. The chicken is tender and juicy with layers of spicy flavor, and the tart shell adds a delightful crunch.
The Sweet and Sour Prawn-Stuffed Egg is another highlight. The fried egg is hollowed out, and the yolk is mixed with salad dressing before being stuffed back into the egg white. A sweet and sour prawn is placed on top and lightly torched, adding a tempting roasted aroma and a rich flavor.
Lastly, the Braised Pork Belly Roll with Ginger Sauce features pork belly rolled with carrot and radish strips, pan-fried to perfection, and served with a unique purple ginger sauce. It's simple yet delicious, with a crisp and juicy texture.
For drinks, you can choose from signature beverages, coffee, or tea. I opted for the signature drinks: the warm Orange and Aged Tangerine Peel Honey, which is great for digestion, and the Osmanthus Green Tea Soda, known for its beauty-enhancing and antioxidant properties.
