Located in the center of Hualien City, [Hualien Railway Cultural Park No. 1] was formerly the "Hualien Port Branch Office of the Ministry of Railways" established during the Japanese colonial period. It was once the headquarters of the Hualien-Taitung Railway. This courtyard-style wooden building has experienced a century of wind and rain and witnessed the rise and fall and changes of the eastern railway.
After years of restoration and revitalization, the park has now been transformed into a multicultural leisure park, retaining the original historical architectural style and introducing exhibition spaces, cinemas, music performance venues and other facilities, becoming a cultural venue that combines history and modern art. Among them, the Zhongshan Hall was the most sophisticated building at the time. After restoration, the exquisitely carved air-conditioning vents, diamond-shaped wooden doors and push-type round windows can still be seen, showing the unique charm of Japanese architecture.
In addition, the "762 Library" in the park provides railway-related books for reference and sale, and organizes parent-child railway theme courses and Hualien Old Town walk-through activities to allow visitors to gain a deeper understanding of local culture and history.
