You can take cross-border buses operated by various companies directly from Hong Kong to Huizhou. After crossing the border at Heung Yuen Wai, you can reach Huizhou via Shenzhen's Liantang Port. The first stop is Jinluan Hotel (a 75-minute ride), followed by Kande Hotel and Huizhou Airport Terminal (this stop is only for airport transfers). It is recommended to get off at Jinluan Hotel, as there are many dining options nearby and taxis are easily accessible.
Huizhou is quite large, so it is advisable to stay in hotels located in new districts with large shopping malls. For sightseeing, most historical sites are concentrated around West Lake, which is a must-visit attraction and does not require an entrance fee. Nearby, Shuixiang Street is an ancient commercial and dining area, and the area around Su Dongpo's former residence is also worth exploring. The Huizhou Museum is another must-see destination. Huizhou has both Sam's Club and Walmart, where you can shop to your heart's content!
Although Huizhou does not have a subway system, it does have light rail. You can take express trains to reach cities in the Greater Bay Area within an hour, while slower trains take only two hours. Ticket prices are the same for both express and slower trains.
The local culture in Huizhou is simple and honest, with Hakka people making up the majority of the population. Taxis are easy to hail, and drivers are friendly and chatty.
