Records Reflecting Modern Joseon: Tracing the Marks of Change

The exhibition hall meticulously showcases various traces from the modern Joseon era. It features materials related to the establishment of schools, accounting records of commercial activities, and economic documents, preserving the remnants of modern systems. On one side of the exhibition, there is a display of educational institutions established in Ganghwa after the opening of ports, offering a glimpse into the transformed lifestyles of the time. Another section of the Ganghwa History Museum presents documents and transaction ledgers that illustrate the industrial development of modern Ganghwa, vividly conveying the changes in the economic system during the late Joseon period. Outside, monuments and memorial stones erected during the modern era commemorate the figures and events of that time. Following the exhibition, one can vividly picture Ganghwa during the turbulent period when Joseon's traditions intertwined with Western influences. The traces of those who stood at the turning point of an era are preserved in this space.
