On this trip to Okinawa, as a seafood lover, I made a point of visiting two popular fish markets: Itoman Fish Market near the airport and Tomari Port Fish Market in downtown Naha, for a local comparison! ✈️🦪

Itoman Fish Market feels like a modern supermarket 🏪, with cool air conditioning ❄️ and bright lighting 💡, completely devoid of the clammy feel of traditional fish markets. Best of all, there's a large dining area 🪑 right outside the entrance, making it super convenient to open and eat right after purchase! We ordered toro 🍣, sea urchin 🌟, squid 🦑, and fresh fish sashimi 🐠, which we even had the chef cut for us 🔪. The winner is clear the moment you take a bite. The toro is rich and fragrant 😋, the squid is crisp and sweet 👌, and the sea urchin is melt-in-your-mouth buttery. A simple dip in wasabi brings out the freshness of the ocean 🌊.
(Warm reminder: fried items 🍤 and grilled items 🍢 are not freshly made and will lose their flavor after cooling.)
