Natural Monument Susanni 'Gomsol'

The Gomsol tree in Susanni was designated as Natural Monument No. 441 on May 14, 2004.

Gomsol is an evergreen conifer belonging to the pine family, commonly known as sea pine (pine trees near the sea) or black pine.

The Susanni Gomsol was designated as a natural monument due to its beautiful shape, with branches near the reservoir being about 2 meters lower than the tree's base and its wide-spreading canopy.

🌲 The tree is estimated to be around 400 years old, planted when the village was established.

In winter, 🌨️ the snow-covered Gomsol resembles 🐻❄️ a white bear crouching by the reservoir to drink water, which is how it got its name 'Gomsol.'

On the opposite side of Gomsol, a stone is engraved with the poem 'Flag' by poet Yu Chi-hwan, famously shouted by the protagonist to their beloved in the popular Netflix drama 'Someday, I’ll Be a Star.'
