📅 Itinerary
Day1: There are currently no direct flights from Beijing to Jiuquan, so you'll need to fly to Jiayuguan Airport. Only one direct flight is available each in the morning and afternoon, with more options for connecting flights. Jiayuguan Airport is currently undergoing upgrades, so hopefully air travel will become more convenient in the future. Opt for a window seat—the breathtaking landscapes along the way will leave you no time to close your eyes: the stunning Qilian Mountain Range, the snow-capped peaks, and the endless beauty of nature that leaves you speechless.
Day2: Having visited Jiayuguan Fantawild Adventure (Phase 1) before, this time I explored Phase 2. Off-season travel offers an unparalleled experience—no parades or fireworks, but also no queues, meaning you can ride your favorite attractions as many times as you want. The thrill of enjoying snow views from a roller coaster is absolutely one-of-a-kind. My favorite was the Dunhuang Mysteries ride—proof that every place should highlight its unique culture. The Dunhuang theme combined with 5D technology reveals new details with every ride. The staff were warm and welcoming—not as polished as Universal Studios' actors, but they’d kindly ask if you wanted to go again.
Day3: The Western Han Jiuquan Scenic Spot, the city’s oldest park, is still called "Quanhu Park" by the older generation. While the story of Huo Qubing pouring wine into a spring is well-known, I only just learned that Zuo Zongtang built Quanhu Park and pioneered its public opening—a national first. Truly, learning never ends.
🏨 Hotel Recommendation: Jiuquan Ancient Road Inn—just the name won me over. The front desk staff were warm and polite, and turndown service included a handwritten welcome note—the last time I saw such a personal touch was at Abu Dhabi’s The EDITION. Great service truly knows no borders.
🍴 Food Recommendation: Yumen Yangbola is my forever love. A hearty mix of lamb offal, wok-fried to perfection, tossed with cubed flatbread—it’s pure bliss. Pair it with a refreshing apricot kernel drink, and you’ve got the perfect summer combo in the Northwest.
📌 Pro Tips: Sunscreen is a must—cover even the back of your hands. Also, dress for the significant day-night temperature swings. Don’t miss the hidden gem of the city’s central square at dusk: with the sunset and fountain in full swing, it’s the perfect spot for a lifetime photo.
