If you're traveling to Fukuoka, consider setting aside half a day to visit the Kyushu Municipal Museum of Art. On September 3rd, I had the chance to admire works by Matisse and Picasso. Although the exhibition hall isn't very large, you can feel the meticulous care and thoughtfulness in the curation. Each painting quietly draws you in, inviting you to linger. While most of the artworks lack English descriptions and photography is prohibited in many areas, this allows you to focus entirely on the pieces in front of you and fully immerse yourself in the moment.
The admission fee is only 300 yen, offering an incredibly cost-effective opportunity to engage with masterpieces. The museum is also easily accessible—simply take the 7M bus from Kokura Station (near Heiwadori Station) directly to the museum entrance. For the return trip, you can board the bus at the same spot.
📍 Location: 1-1-1 Nishihonmachi, Yahatahigashi-ku, Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture
🕘 Hours: 9:30 AM–5:30 PM (last admission at 5:00 PM)
❌ Closed: Mondays (or the following day if Monday is a public holiday), and during the New Year holidays
This isn't a large museum, but it offers a uniquely tranquil atmosphere. For travelers planning their itinerary in Fukuoka or Kokura, it's a wonderful place to slow down and soak in the artistic ambiance.
