• Location: Situated in southwestern Honshu, Japan, it is a key city in the Hanshin Industrial Zone, bordering Osaka Bay to the west and the Rokko Mountains to the north.

• City Status: One of Japan's earliest port cities to open to foreign trade. It is an important international trading port and industrial center. After undergoing years of reconstruction following the 1995 Great Hanshin Earthquake, it has become a world-renowned livable city.
