Merese Hill

Bukit Merese is always on my “must-visit” list whenever I’m in Lombok – no matter how many times I’ve been, the excitement never fades. The view from up here? Absolutely stunning.
This time, I came during the dry season, so there wasn’t any lush green grass covering the hills. But honestly, it didn’t take away from the beauty at all. The endless blue ocean and rolling hills were still breathtaking.
I still remember my very first visit back in 2016. I was so overwhelmed by the scenery that tears actually rolled down my cheeks. Back then, the route up here was different – Fandy parked near the beach at the foot of the hill, and we hiked all the way from there. Now, there’s a proper access path, so you don’t have to climb as much. My 66-year-old mum made it up with no problem, so all you youngsters out there… no excuses! Hehe.
From the top of Bukit Merese, you get a sweeping view of the Indian Ocean stretching out in front of you. They say the best time to visit is during sunset, but even under the blazing midday sun, the scenery is still incredible. Just be warned – stay too long and you might go home with that “BBQ edition” tan.
