A Memorable Birthday Treat

We decided it was time to stop exchanging birthday gifts and instead went for a special treat. I planned a lunch here, and we took a delightful walk through Green Park, finding ourselves in a serene and elegant place. Everyone, from the doormen to the cloakroom attendant, was attentive and helpful. The Lanesborough Grill was relaxed, though the decor leaned toward the formal, all very tasteful. We arrived early and enjoyed a glass of Champagne. We picked from the fixed menu, which was somewhat limited, but we both found something appealing in each course. The food and wine were delicious and artfully presented. We worried the portions might be so tiny we'd need more food later, but that wasn't the case. We were completely satisfied (I'm reclining as I write!). We had the cheddar soufflé, the Glazed Beef Short Rib, and each chose a different dessert. They offered side dishes; I chose hash browns and my husband the Cornish new potatoes. Fresh bread was also provided—so tasty. We only needed one side dish. It was a lovely experience, and at the end, Dave received a small birthday gift. This was an experience, and undeniably expensive—at least for us (could be many hundreds of pounds depending on the wine), but it's easy to spend a few hundred pounds on gifts that are soon forgotten. We won't forget today quickly. This isn't a place we'd visit regularly, but as a treat, it was simply wonderful. We will definitely return. One happy couple had a perfect and memorable experience!
