Sanmenyuan Ancient Village in Longyou, Zhejiang

Sanmenyuan Village is nestled against the remaining veins of the Qianli Ridge mountain range to the north and borders the Jinhua-Quzhou Basin to the south, covering an area of 120 square kilometers. Surrounded by mountains on three sides, a mountain stream flows through the village from north to south. Buildings are constructed along both sides of the stream, following the mountain's contours. The staggered horsehead walls, winding cobblestone lanes, and unique whitewashed walls and black tiles showcase the rich character of the ancient village. Sanmenyuan Village primarily features Ming and Qing dynasty architecture, preserving the characteristics of both Hui-style and Jiangnan-style residential buildings. The Ye Family Residence complex in the east of the village represents the late Qing dynasty architecture of Zhejiang and was designated as a seventh batch National Key Cultural Relic Protection Unit by the State Council in 2013. Sanmenyuan Village boasts natural landscapes such as Fan Zeng Mountain and Baifo Rock Waterfall. Traditional cultural forms such as Wu Opera ballad singing, Daoqing opera, dragon dances, lion dances, tea-picking lantern dances, horse lantern dances, and stilt walking are still practiced in the village. It is listed among the first batch of China's Traditional Villages.
