I can only say that Beihai Tunnel is absolutely amazing! The moment you step inside and see the massive man-made waterway and rock walls, you can't help but exclaim, "Wow!" This entire tunnel was carved out by soldiers with their blood, sweat, and tears. Just imagining the scene of them working is awe-inspiring! 💪
One thing to note is that the pathways inside the tunnel are only open during low tide. You must check the tide schedule online before heading out, or you'll end up stuck at the entrance, which would be a huge letdown!
🛶 Atmosphere/Facilities:
The tunnel is very cool inside, making it a perfect summer destination. You can choose between two ways to explore:
🚶 Walking: During low tide, you can walk along the pathway next to the rock walls, which takes about 15-20 minutes. The path can be a bit slippery, so walk carefully. The reflections of the rock walls on the water create a truly atmospheric scene.
🚣 Rowboat/Canoe: For a different perspective, I highly recommend spending a little extra to take a "rowboat" ride! The boatman will row while sharing historical stories about the tunnel and might even sing a little tune, adding to the vibe. If you prefer not to share a boat with others, you can also paddle a canoe yourself for a more independent experience!
Personally, I think it's worth taking the rowboat ride since you're already there. Seeing the tunnel from the water is a completely different experience, and the grandeur feels even more amplified! If you visit during the Blue Tears season, the experience is even better. With minimal light pollution, it's easier to spot the Blue Tears, and weather conditions won't affect your view.
