Tamatsukuri Onsen (Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture)

☆ Tamatsukuri Onsen, located in Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture, is a hot spring renowned for its skin-beautifying properties.

☆ The Tamayu River flows through the center of the town, lined with cherry blossom trees on both sides. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll along the clear stream and take a relaxing break at the free foot baths when feeling tired.

☆ At the edge of the hot spring town, there are famous power spots such as Tamatsukuriyu Shrine and Seiganji Temple, where visitors can pray for love and beautiful skin.

This shrine is famous for its "Wishing Stone" and "Fulfillment Stone." It is popular for allowing visitors to create their own personal charm, the "Fulfillment Stone." Many people visit for this purpose. The process involves first selecting a "Fulfillment Stone Set" (600 yen) at the shrine office at the bottom of the stairs. Then, you take it to the "Wishing Stone" within the shrine grounds to receive its power. Finally, you write your wish on a piece of paper and dedicate it to the shrine to complete your "Fulfillment Stone." It is said to be beneficial to carry it with you at all times. The instructions are also included in the "Fulfillment Stone Set," so it is not difficult to follow.

This temple is famous for the "Oshiroi Jizo-sama" (Powdered Face Jizo). It is located just a short 3-minute walk from Tamatsukuriyu Shrine. There is a signboard for "Oshiroi Jizo-sama" at the entrance, so it is easy to find. First, you pay your respects at the main hall, then purchase an "Oshiroi Prayer Plaque" (300 yen, available for face or body) at the Oshiroi prayer station. Using the colored pencils provided, you color in the areas you wish to beautify. Once prepared, you dedicate the plaque and gently apply powder to the Oshiroi Jizo-sama with a brush.

☆ When I visited, the hot spring town was hosting a cherry blossom festival, and the nighttime illuminations were beautiful. It seems that events are occasionally held in other seasons as well, so it might be a good idea to check the town's website for event information before booking accommodations.
