Matsuyama Castle in Japan is a mountaintop castle located in Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture. It is one of the 12 existing original castle towers from the Edo period and one of the "100 Famous Castles in Japan". Built in 1602, Kato Yoshiaki began to build the castle and was later ruled by the Matsudaira family. It is a typical mountain castle with connected castle towers. The castle tower is built on Katsuyama Mountain at an altitude of 132 meters. Climbing the castle tower, you can overlook the Matsuyama city area and the Seto Inland Sea. It is an excellent attraction that combines history and natural landscapes.
The biggest feature of Matsuyama Castle is that it retains the complete castle tower, turrets and stone wall groups. The defensive structure is connected layer by layer, with a high degree of military function. It is also one of the largest existing castle towers in Japan. You can choose to climb the castle by hiking or taking a cable car/chair lift. The process itself is like a small trip.
