Li-Yu-Tan Reservoir in Zhuolan Township, Miaoli County

Li-Yu-Tan Reservoir is located in Zhuolan Township, Sanyi Township, and Dahu Township in Miaoli County, situated downstream of the Jingshan River, a tributary of the Daan River. This reservoir is an off-channel type, meaning the dam is not built on the main river channel but rather on a nearby smaller tributary. Li-Yu-Tan Reservoir is renowned for its scenic beauty, surrounded by mountains, and its most popular feature—the unique sawtooth spillway. This spillway, combined with the picturesque backdrop of the lake and mountains, makes it a must-visit spot for photography enthusiasts. Constructed in 1985 and completed in 1992, the reservoir has a dam height of 96 meters and a catchment area of 53.45 square kilometers. It serves multiple purposes, including providing water for Miaoli and Taichung regions, irrigation, flood control, power generation, and tourism.
