A temple of the Tendai sect in Mt. Nachi, which has a history of 1600 years and flourished as a practice place for the combination of Shinto and Buddhism. It is not only visited by many worshippers as the first place of the Sangoku Thirty-three Kannon Shrines, but it has also been selected as one of the constituent heritage sites of UNESCO's world cultural heritage "Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountains".
The main hall, Nyoirin-do, which was burned down by the fire of Nobunaga Oda and later rebuilt by the order of Hideyoshi Toyotomi, is an important cultural property designated by the state. Japan's oldest Hokyointo, which has a 1322 inscription, is also designated as an important cultural property.
