[Nagano/Nagano City] The cedar trees and Nakasha Shrine of Togakushi Shrine in the snow

Togakushi Shrine is pure mystical energy, especially in spring. It's tucked deep in the mountains, surrounded by ancient cedar forests and — in April — accented by bursts of late-blooming cherry trees. The long approach to the Okusha (Upper Shrine) through the towering cedars is breathtaking on its own, but when you catch glimpses of sakura along the way, it feels otherworldly. I loved the sense of ancient quietness here — the stones were worn smooth, the torii gates aged beautifully. My #cherryblossom25 post showed a mix of late snow, early green buds, and lone cherry trees in bloom — a rare, layered look that screamed “hidden gem.” Bring good shoes — the trail can be muddy — but the experience is absolutely worth it for anyone chasing a deep, raw connection with Japan’s spiritual side.
