Tsumago-juku, a post town on the Nakasendo road, is a historic district that was the first in Japan to be designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. The houses that retain the architectural features of Edo-period inns are lined up, and the nostalgic atmosphere is attractive. In addition to enjoying the townscape, there are also restaurants and souvenir shops. There are also many souvenir shops selling chestnut kinton, a specialty of neighboring Nakatsugawa City. I went on the 1/2nd of the New Year, so few stores were open and there were few tourists. If you want to enjoy taking photos, I recommend aiming for this time of year. If you want to go on a food tour, it's probably best to avoid New Year. Recommended spots 📍Tsumago-juku Address: 2178-10 Azuma, Minami Kiso-machi, Kiso-gun, Nagano Prefecture 399-5302 Cost: Free Parking: Free Opening hours: 8:30 to 17:00 ⚠ Caution: Many shops, such as souvenir shops, close at 15:00, so be careful.
