but you can go see Shuri Castle, which is currently under restoration.

It was a good opportunity to once again learn about the history of Okinawa and Ryukyu, and it was a learning experience that cannot be learned at a desk 👩🎓📚

It will be rebuilt in 2026, so in a year...
I hope to see Shuri Castle from the same place again then.

⚫︎History of Shuri Castle
A nationally designated historic site. A castle at the center of the Ryukyu Kingdom, a hill castle built on a coral reef about 100 meters above sea level. This castle was the base of the Ryukyu Dynasty for 450 years.
The main hall was destroyed in a fire in 2019 and is currently undergoing reconstruction. The reconstruction is scheduled to be completed in 2026.
