Nanjing | Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum | Plum Blossom Makeup Charm This touch of green is very soothing
The spacious lawn and dawn redwoods at the Plum Blossom Makeup Charm area of Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum in Nanjing create a soothing green base that lifts the spirit. It's a great place to check in, take photos, run, walk, daydream, or listen to music.
The "Plum Blossom Makeup Charm" here also has a touching story said to originate from Princess Shouyang, daughter of Emperor Liu Yu of the Southern Song Dynasty. According to records, one day Princess Shouyang was playing in the courtyard with palace maids, lying under the eaves of Hanzhang Hall. At that time, wintersweet flowers were in full bloom, and a petal fell on the princess's forehead. The flower mark could not be wiped away, making the princess look even more charming. Since then, she often used the powder from the wintersweet flower stamens to decorate her forehead. This makeup style spread among the people and is called "Plum Blossom Makeup," or "Plum Makeup," or "Shouyang Makeup."
