Nanjing / Laomendong Street

Laomendong is a charming neighborhood that integrates history, culture, creative arts, delicious food, and leisure activities, making it a must-visit attraction for tourists in Nanjing.

Laomendong gets its name from its location east of Zhonghua Gate (formerly known as Jubao Gate) in Nanjing. Historically, it was an important part of the Confucius Temple area (southern part of the city). It was once a hub of industry, commerce, and handicrafts during the Ming and Qing dynasties, and also the residence of many long-time Nanjing residents.

Through careful planning and restoration, Laomendong has been transformed into a vibrant area, retaining many historical buildings and streetscapes while infusing modern cultural and creative industries with commercial energy. It has become a charming yet fashionable "open-air museum" and leisure destination. Compared to the more crowded Confucius Temple area, many locals and tourists prefer Laomendong's artistic atmosphere and more authentic experience.
