Nantong's Outstanding Figure - Zhang Jian Memorial Hall

Zhang Jian (1853-1926), born in Nantong, Jiangsu, was the top scholar in the imperial examination in 1894. He is a pioneer and model of Chinese private entrepreneurs, an outstanding educator, philanthropist, and social activist.
He was committed to saving the country through industry and wrote a legend of the development of modern national industry in China. He cared for the people, ran education, repaired water conservancy, built municipal administration, and promoted charity; he was a pioneer in promoting the modernization of industry, agriculture, finance, and cities, making Nantong a model county famous throughout the country, and was praised by contemporary academia as "the first city in modern China".
Everyone in Nantong is proud of Zhang Jian, an outstanding figure from Nantong, and his contribution to Nantong is truly great! When I came to Nantong, what I wanted to see most was the Zhang Jian Memorial Hall and the Nantong Museum!
