The Guernica Tapestry, which gained fame through Maha Harada's novel "The Curtain of Guernica," is now on display in Kyushu✨
【Oita Prefectural Art Museum (OPAM)】
"10th Anniversary Exhibition: LINKS—Connecting Oita and the World"
As the highlight of this special exhibition themed around "connections" between people and artworks, the tapestry was created to promote Picasso's original painting depicting the horrors of war. Only three such tapestries were made under strict conditions.
The composition of the artwork, its overwhelming size, and the intricate weaving are truly awe-inspiring. Having seen the original in Spain, I found the slightly different color tones of the tapestry, compared to the monochrome of the original, to be uniquely captivating⭐️
Other Picasso works, including two oil paintings and seven ceramic pieces, are also on display.
Additionally, masterpieces by artists such as Cézanne, Monet, Kiyoteru Kuroda, Seiji Togo, Harue Koga, Shunsuke Matsumoto, and Taro Okamoto are featured, making this exhibition a fitting celebration of OPAM's 10th anniversary. It's definitely worth a trip😊
The museum shop also offers a wide range of Picasso-themed merchandise.
