The Tsushima Memorial Museum is located next to Naminoue Shrine in Naha City, Okinawa. It was built to commemorate the children and civilians who lost their lives during the "Tsushima Maru Incident" in World War II. In 1944, the Tsushima Maru passenger ship, carrying evacuated children and residents, was attacked by a submarine and sank during its voyage, resulting in the tragic loss of many innocent lives. Inside the museum, visitors can find historical records of the incident, survivors' recollections, as well as photos and belongings of the children. The atmosphere is somber and deeply moving. The museum serves as a reminder of the cruelty of war and the preciousness of peace, while also expressing profound mourning for innocent lives lost. Although the exhibition space is small, its emotional impact is powerful, making it a place worth visiting for quiet reflection and contemplation. It is a hope that such tragedies will never be repeated in the future.
