Itsukushima Shrine (Itsukushima Shrine, Hiroshima) – The Enchanting Torii Floating in the Sea.

Located on Miyajima Island in Hiroshima Prefecture, Itsukushima Shrine is a beautiful tourist destination counted among Japan's three most scenic spots. The shrine is particularly famous for its large vermilion torii gate that appears to float on the sea, offering different views depending on the tide. At high tide, the gate looks as if it is floating on the water, while at low tide, visitors can walk right up to its base.

The shrine itself, founded in the Heian period, is a historic site featuring beautiful corridors and a main hall. The atmosphere becomes especially magical during the evening when the shrine is illuminated. Miyajima is also home to wild deer, which are very popular with tourists.

Additionally, Miyajima is famous for its local specialties such as momiji manju (maple leaf-shaped sweet buns) and grilled oysters, making it a great place for food lovers. The island is conveniently accessible by a 10-minute ferry ride from Hiroshima City, making it perfect for a day trip. With its blend of history, nature, and gourmet delights, Miyajima is a highly recommended spot for travelers in Japan.
