Pai Historical Bridge

#GetDiscountsWithoutLuck
This dark green steel bridge crosses the Pai River, serving as the gateway to Pai District, connecting Chiang Mai to Pai and Mae Hong Son. Located at Ban Tha Pai, Mae Hi Subdistrict, Pai District, Mae Hong Son Province, along Highway 1095 (Mae Malai-Pai) at kilometer marker 88, this bridge was built during World War II by Japanese troops to cross the Pai River and transport supplies and weapons for their attack on Burma (then a British colony). Originally constructed of wood, the Japanese troops recruited Thais from various villages to clear a route from Chiang Mai to Mae Hong Son. Meanwhile, villagers from Mae Hong Son on the other side of the river were also conscripted to clear a route to Chiang Mai. The two routes converge at Ban Tha Pai, Pai District. Elephants then used 30-inch-wide logs to drag from the forest and erect them as pillars to form a bridge, connecting the two banks over the Pai River. It has become a historical route and bridge of war.
