Pingtan: The Blue Tears Spectacle of Island Charm

Right now, Pingtan has blue skies and white clouds, but the UV rays are ridiculously strong! The weather forecast shows clear skies for the next few days, with temperatures around 29-35°C. For those coming, make sure to protect yourself from the sun! Here are some hard-earned tips for visiting Pingtan!
1️⃣ Don’t try to be a Pingtan special forces soldier! It’s smartest to split the North and South routes. Each attraction is at least 10 kilometers apart. Riding a small electric scooter under the sun until your skin peels is no joke.
2️⃣ The biggest expense is accommodation! During summer, homestay prices double. Booking a homestay near Longwangtou one month in advance can save you the cost of three seafood dinners.
3️⃣ Pingtan is definitely not a food desert! I personally tried Haitan’s specialty snacks and Shisimei salted rice cakes—absolutely amazing. Don’t miss the intangible cultural heritage snacks like Shilaizhuan and Tianchangdijiu, or your trip is wasted.
4️⃣ Never wear flip-flops chasing the blue tears! Say it three times! The reef area at night is super slippery. Wearing flip-flops means you might do a split at any moment. Locals wear anti-slip hole shoes, trust me.
5️⃣ The flower garlands sold as photo props on Longfengtou Beach are outrageously expensive. Haggling just gets you dirty looks. Isn’t it better to bring your own straw bag and scarf?
6️⃣ For blue tear newbies, head straight to Beibu Bay! Check the “Travel Pingtan” forecast in advance (80% accuracy). Bring a DSLR and tripod; phone photos will all be blurry.
7️⃣ Pingtan’s attractions depend heavily on the weather. On cloudy days, Tannan Bay is just an ordinary beach. Make sure to shoot before 4 PM on sunny days—the shimmering mirror-like sand is stunning.
8️⃣ Maotouqian and Heping Village have fewer people and beautiful scenery. Arrive two hours before sunset for the best views. The colorful stone houses under the sunset are breathtaking, and best of all, it’s free and photogenic.
9️⃣ Choose either Houyan Island or Xianren Well: pick the former if you want to shoot the 68 nautical mile landmark, the latter if you want to experience the crashing waves (remember to wear anti-slip shoes).
🔟 Don’t rush to leave Changjiang’ao Windmill Fields! After the tide recedes, you can dig up lots of clams. If you have kids, bring a small shovel (the ones sold at the scenic spot are overpriced).
1️⃣1️⃣ If it’s too hot outside and you want indoor activities, visit the Weifushe Art Shop. They have handmade DIY, Korean-style fabric patches, and many souvenirs.
1️⃣2️⃣ Watching the blue tears and sunset at Tannan Bay is absolutely amazing! The lazy sofa is great value—lie back and watch the sunset dye the whole sea red.
