Hengchun Ancient City: The Most Well-Preserved Century-Old Heritage in Southern Taiwan

Hengchun Ancient City, located in Hengchun Township, Pingtung County, was built during the Guangxu era of the Qing Dynasty. It is the most well-preserved ancient city in Taiwan. The city walls stretch approximately 880 meters and feature four gates: East, West, South, and North. Originally constructed to defend against external threats and maintain local security, the ancient city was initially named "Langjiao" but later renamed "Hengchun" due to its year-round spring-like climate. Although parts of the city were dismantled during the Japanese colonial period, visitors can still admire the majestic gates and remnants of the ancient walls today. Strolling through the area, one can not only immerse themselves in the rich historical atmosphere but also enjoy the unique charm that blends heritage with local culture.

Public Transportation: Take a bus from Kaohsiung to Hengchun Transit Station, then walk approximately 10 minutes to reach the site.

Driving: Follow National Highway No. 3 and switch to the Ping-E Highway (Taiwan Route 26), then follow the signs to Hengchun Ancient City.
