The Blue Church of Almas in Porto

Walking along the bustling shopping street of Rua de Santa Catarina in Porto, you might come across a small church quietly revealing itself amidst the crowd. However, its appearance is anything but small. The entire exterior is covered with striking blue azulejo tiles, making this church stand out prominently in the city's landscape.

Known as Capela das Almas, or 'Chapel of Souls' in Portuguese, this quaint church has been a place of worship for believers since the 18th century. Its most notable feature is the tile decoration added in 1929, which intricately depicts scenes from the lives and martyrdom of Saint Francis and Saint Catherine.
