This is what I consider the most regrettable mountain in China - Tianzhu Mountain

Let me preface this: This route goes from West Gate to East Gate, utilizing cable cars both ways—taking the Dalongwo Cable Car up and the Longtanhe Cable Car down.
Why choose this route? It involves more uphill sections, making it ideal for those who want to cover the entire scenic area without excessive physical strain. No backtracking—let’s begin!
① Visitor Center → Dalongwo Cable Car
Start at the Visitor Center and take the shuttle bus to Dalongwo Cable Car. The shuttle fee is mandatory.
💰 Ticket: 130 | Shuttle: 30 | ⏳ 15min
② Dalongwo Cable Car
An 8-person gondola 🚡. I only bought a one-way uphill ticket since we won’t be returning this way.
💰 80 | ⏳ 10min
③ Dalongwo Cable Car → Tianchi Peak
This section covers the West Gate’s highlights, including Feilai Peak and Tianzhu Peak (note: these are for viewing only—no climbing allowed).
💰 Free walk | ⏳ 60min
🥤 A small shop here offers snacks/drinks—stock up, as supplies are scarce later.
⚠️ At the first fork, check the map: left is the steep "Hundred-Step Cloud Ladder"; right is gentler (choose right if less fit).
④ Tianchi Peak → Liandan Lake
Only one path ahead—this tests your stamina and marks the end of the West Gate section.
💰 Free walk | ⏳ 80min
⚠️ Four options here: East Gate (our route), South Gate (hike down), Muyanghe Cable Car (descend via cable car), or return via Dalongwo Cable Car.
⑤ Liandan Lake → Longtanhe Cable Car
At Liandan Lake, turn LEFT❗❗❗ Circle the lake to start the East Gate journey.
⏳ 60min
⑥ Longtanhe Cable Car
This ride feels endless—I started doubting myself!
💰 75 | ⏳ 20min
⑦ Longtanhe Cable Car → Visitor Center
Take the shuttle back (ticket included; no extra fee).
⏳ 12min
✅ Summary
💰 Cost: 130 (ticket) + 30 (shuttle) + 155 (two cable cars) = 315 yuan
⏳ Time: 5 hours total
❇️ Final Tips
🔹 My pace was moderate. Older adults or those hiking slower should add 10% time (~6 hours).
🔸 Tianzhu Mountain is generally beginner-friendly with well-maintained paths.
🔹 All timings exclude queue waits.
🔸 Winds are strong—bring a jacket 🧥.
🔹 HIGHLY recommend trekking poles (no debate!).
💔 Regrets
- At Tianchi Peak, a detour brings you closer to Tianzhu Peak.
- After the East Gate’s glass walkway, you’ll pass Tianshi Peak (climbable).
Both were skipped due to steep return hikes and time constraints.
