The Glimmer of Light in the Old Factory—Quanzhou Yuanhe 1916 Creative Industrial Park

#AugustGoodPlaces2025
The red brick exterior retains the roughness of time, while steel beams and skylights reveal the industrial bones. At Yuanhe 1916, the aroma of coffee, printing ink, and wood sawdust blend into a new urban scent. The studio's doors are wide open, and the sea breeze gently undulates the edges of the canvases. The bookstore displays the fonts of old newspapers and the texture of new books, and the design exhibition fuses waste materials with inspiration into usable objects.

Sitting on a bench in the courtyard, I watch the dusk paint the brick walls a rosy hue. This place teaches people to respect "regeneration": it's not about demolishing the old and building the new, but about negotiating with the old, finding new uses and emotional connections. As the lights come on, the factory buildings, like awakened beasts, are quiet yet powerful. Before leaving, I bought a handmade print, its edges endearingly rough. I knew I wasn't taking away a souvenir, but an attitude—keeping memories alive, allowing the city to grow gently.
