Rhodes - the largest island in the Dodecanese, is famous for its seaside resorts, ancient ruins and the remains of the Knights of St. John during the Crusades. Rhodes has an old town with a medieval-style Knights Street and a castle-like Grand Master's Palace. The palace was occupied by the Ottoman Empire and later by the Italians, and now it has become a historical museum.
The island is divided into the New Town, the Old Town and the Seaside Promenade.
The new and old towns are mainly shops and restaurants. And I only roamed the old town this time, because the old town of any place is full of historical traces. When you are in it, you will first experience the environment and feel the baptism of history; you can also feel it first.
On the island, you will see an old city wall surrounding the seaside, and the city wall will also have several gates. When you pass through the gate, you have entered the old town. You can roam in the city gate area, shuttle between different shops, and find your favorite souvenirs.
And shuttle through the city streets, you will find teahouses and restaurants with different characteristics. I chose an open-air teahouse restaurant myself. This restaurant is located in a garden. Each guest can choose the sunshine, music volume, or quiet location they like to enjoy their time.
After lunch, we continued to roam the city streets and visit other historical sites; such as chapels and castles.
Finally, we walked down the city streets. At the bottom of the street, you will come to the central square in the city. There is a fountain in the square, which is also a place to play cards.
After walking out of the city wall, I walked along the seaside promenade and enjoyed the real blue sky and blue sea.
At the end of the promenade is a bell tower, and not far from the bell tower, you will see a column with a bronze statue of a male deer on the column. There is also a column on the opposite bank, and there is also a bronze statue of a female deer on the top of the column. It is said that the two columns used to support a sculpture of a giant; the two columns are the positions where the giant's left and right feet stand upright, but where is the giant now? It is unknown!
