This shopping street is located in front of Shukuin Tongu Shrine.
Sakai flourished in the Middle Ages through trade with Western Europeans and developed as an autonomous city. This shopping street has the longest history in the city.
This area developed as a temple town for Aguchi Shrine.
During the Edo period, a theater called "Odera Shibai" was built nearby, and restaurants, kimono shops, and other establishments appeared.
As people gathered, the number of stores increased, and gradually a shopping street took shape.
While many stores have their shutters down, there are also kimono shops and incense shops, creating a nostalgic atmosphere.
Restaurant Naniwatei, a long-established Western restaurant that has been in business for over 70 years and has been passed down through three generations, is also famous.
What's impressive is the large torii gate in the shopping street, directly connecting Aguchi Shrine to the shopping street!
