[Osaka] Sakai City, Tadeiyama Tomb (Tomb of Emperor Hanzei)

#SummerCampaign

This keyhole-shaped tumulus, with its front facing south, is located at the northern end of the Mozu Kofun Group. It is currently managed by the Imperial Household Agency as the northern tomb and Emperor Hanzei's tomb, one of the three Mozu Tombs.
The tumulus measures approximately 148m in length, with a circular rear section measuring 76m in diameter and 13m in height, and a front section measuring 110m in width and 15m in height, making it the seventh largest in the Mozu Kofun Group.
It is about one-third the size of the Emperor Nintoku's tomb.
The tumulus is built in three tiers, and its shape and excavated haniwa clay figures suggest it was built in the mid-5th century.
While currently surrounded by a single shield-shaped moat, excavations in the surrounding area have confirmed the presence of a double moat.
