🏘Wat Phet Samut Worawihan, formerly known as Wat Si Champa, was built during the reign of King Prasat Thong of Ayutthaya. In 1764, villagers from Laem, Phetchaburi, fled from the Burmese and settled in Mae Klong Subdistrict, north of Wat Si Champa, naming the village Ban Laem.
🏕The villagers of Laem helped renovate Wat Si Champa and renamed it Wat Ban Laem. Later, it was elevated to royal status and granted the name Wat Phet Samut Worawihan.
Highlights of the temple include:
🙏🏽 The statue of Luang Pho Ban Laem, depicting the Buddha holding an alms bowl, is the Buddha image for those born on Wednesdays during the daytime. It was created in the same era as Luang Pho Sothon and Luang Pho To of Wat Bang Phli Yai during the early Ayutthaya period. Luang Pho Wat Ban Laem stands 167 centimeters tall and is enshrined in the viharn (ordination hall).
⛺ In front of the viharn, there are numerous sacred objects for worship.
🏚 The Sangha Museum displays Buddha images, amulets from various eras, antiques, and porcelain. and the Ayutthaya-era pulpit.
