Location: Coastal area, Yazhou District, Sanya City, Hainan Province
Introduction: During the Tang Dynasty, the eminent monk Jianzhen encountered a storm while traveling to Japan and drifted ashore here. Since then, this location has become a sacred Buddhist site. Later, Bai Yuchan, the fifth patriarch of the Southern School of Taoism during the Southern Song Dynasty, chose this place to preach and spread Taoist teachings. During the Chunxi era, the local governor Mao Kui named it "Daxiao Dongtian." On May 8, 2007, Daxiao Dongtian Scenic Area was rated as one of the first national 5A-level tourist attractions. On May 8, 2009, the Xiaodongtian Stone Carvings were listed as the second batch of Hainan Provincial Cultural Heritage Protection Units.
Ticket: Free
Opening Hours: 7:30 AM - 6:30 PM
Review: Daxiao Dongtian Scenic Area is quite similar to Tianya Haijiao, as both feature historical stone carvings. However, Daxiao Dongtian has more carvings, ranging from ancient to modern times. Originally requiring an entrance fee, it has recently become free to visit. It's a great place for family outings.
